A simple, single-vendor appliance approach addresses customers’ needs for both private and public cloud manageability
SUNNYVALE, Calif., — Fujitsu America, Inc. today announces the immediate availability of a new appliance that addresses the business needs of enterprise customers seeking robust hybrid cloud solutions in order to reduce costs and simplify cloud manageability requirements. The appliance offers a single end-to-end solution that features a pre-validated and pre-installed version of the Fujitsu Software Enterprise Service Catalog Manager, a self-service portal for enterprises and service providers that automates the delivery of software, infrastructure, and platform services for employees and customers. Customers will have a choice of form factors when selecting the new appliance: either a bare metal or a virtualized appliance available on our Fujitsu Server PRIMERGY® or a pre-validated VMWare®-based Fujitsu Integrated System PRIMEFLEX®. This will be the first appliance in a portfolio of solutions aimed directly at tackling the journey to hybrid cloud.
Nowadays, enterprises are feeling greater pressure than ever before to adopt cloud technologies that improve time-to-market, shift from capital expenditure (CapEx) to operating expenditure (OpEx), and take advantage of the newest technologies. Fujitsu foresees 50% of traditional datacenter workloads moving to a cloud-based platform—be it private, public or hybrid—over the course of the next five years. However, the ease with which public clouds can be adopted has led many companies to lack visibility into, or control over its cloud computing resources. With its new hybrid cloud appliance offering, Fujitsu helps alleviate cloud sprawl by providing a single tool that ties together management, governance and usability in a cloud service marketplace where pre-configured cloud services and applications can be made available via a self-service portal.
Primary Benefits of Implementing the New Appliance
Customers who choose the new appliance will enjoy a host of benefits to public cloud services, including improved control and visibility over its utilization; stricter governance over its deployment, and improved alignment to corporate procurement and approval processes. Furthermore, the appliance manages a number of previously time-consuming and costly tasks with an array of features, such as a cloud service marketplace that integrates existing infrastructure resources and applications to be offered as cloud services; an end-user self-service portal that enables end users to obtain and launch cloud resources and applications with one click in self-service mode; and cloud billing services that generate billing and chargeback data based on the cost of the services that are published on the marketplace.
Through this offering, large- and medium-size enterprises that traditionally operated their own data center facilities have greater flexibility to respond to shifting market conditions, while experiencing fewer barriers to hybrid cloud adoption.
Alex Lam, vice president and head of the North America Global Product Strategy Office, Fujitsu Technology and Business of America, Inc., says: “For most enterprises, the transformation towards Cloud is multi-phased and one that employs varying degrees of integration and consolidation of workloads across traditional infrastructure to private and public cloud services. Fujitsu is dedicated to helping our customers navigate the uncharted journey to Cloud, with our hybrid cloud appliance serving as an important new pillar in Fujitsu’s ever-expanding Cloud portfolio of solutions. Designed to be ready-to-run out of the box, the Fujitsu Hybrid Cloud appliance will provide our customers with a set of intuitive Cloud tools to help manage their most critical data assets from a single point, simplifying their Cloud operations and keeping costs in check.”
