PaperCut Software today announced a major update to PaperCut Hive, its flagship cloud-based print management solution. This release marks a significant milestone in the platform’s evolution, delivering features designed to help system administrators manage user details at scale, automate critical reporting, and enforce stricter cost controls for copying.
With this update, PaperCut Hive moves beyond simple print management, addressing the complex realities of modern IT environments; from mixed-hardware fleets including ARM64 Windows computers to the need for seamless, risk-free user migrations.
“This release isn’t just about individual features; it’s about stepping PaperCut Hive into its next phase,” said Chris Goult, Head of Market Readiness at PaperCut. “We are solving real challenges facing IT admins today while preparing for a growing, global customer base tomorrow. Whether it’s streamlining how users are onboarded or ensuring non-English speakers can use the User Portal in their local language, we’re giving sysadmins flexibility and control like never before.”
Future-proofing with ARM64 support and safety protocols
Recognizing the shift in hardware trends, PaperCut Hive’s Print Queue Deployment now supports ARM64 architecture. As energy-efficient Windows on ARM devices become more prevalent, this update saves IT admins from the headache of managing separate print queues for different architectures, ensuring seamless printing across diverse setups.
Seamless onboarding with the User Data Import Tool
For workplaces transitioning to the cloud, data migration is often the biggest hurdle. The new User Data Import Tool is a built-in feature designed to streamline user onboarding and smooth out migrations from legacy systems.
IT teams can now bulk upload or update user information using simple CSV or TSV files. This feature serves as a flexible, all-in-one solution for organizations that do not use a supported Identity Provider (IdP), have user data scattered across multiple systems, or are migrating from PaperCut MF or PaperCut NG.
Crucially, the tool introduces a “Dry Run” capability, offering risk-free testing. System administrators can simulate the entire import process to check for errors without altering live data. This allows IT teams to correct data discrepancies and proceed with total confidence, ensuring a flawless start for end-users.
Smarter decisions with scheduled reports
Visibility is key to reducing waste, but manual reporting is often a time-consuming burden for IT staff. The new Scheduled Reports feature transforms reporting into a “set-and-forget” assistant.
Admins can now create recurring schedules that automatically generate and email insightful reports (such as Print Volume, User Activity, Environmental Impact, and the new Transaction Report) directly to the people who need them. These reports can be sent to non-admin recipients, such as principals, office managers, and finance teams, in CSV and PDF format . This ensures stakeholders get the data they need to make smarter, waste-free decisions without requiring access to the admin console.
Total cost management with copy control
While print quotas have long been a staple of PaperCut, this release closes the loop on cost management with Copy Control. This feature integrates directly with PaperCut Hive Print Quotas, preventing users from making copies once their budget is exhausted.
Known in the industry as “zero-stop,” this functionality stops users from starting a copy job if they lack funds and halts jobs mid-way if the balance runs out. To improve the user experience, the MFD interface now provides an estimation of how many pages can be copied with the current balance, preventing frustration at the multifunction device (MFD).
A more inclusive, custom experience
PaperCut Hive is becoming more accessible to a global audience with significant updates to the User Portal.
- Local language support: The portal now supports local languages, ensuring a consistent and intuitive experience for non-English speaking users across Europe and international markets.
- Job history: A new “Completed Jobs” tab allows users to track their job history – print, copy, scan, fax and confirm successful outputs directly within the portal; and since the User Portal is web-based, users can easily check it on their mobiles as well
Furthermore, to reinforce corporate identity, the new Custom Branding feature allows organizations to display their logos and customize colors in the Admin Console and User Portal user interfaces. This visual integration reassures users that they are working within authorized, secure software.
“From the granular control of copy costs to the broad capability of ARM64 support, we are building a platform that adapts to the customer, not the other way around,” Goult added. “This update gives our partners a powerful migration playbook and our customers the peace of mind that their print environment is secure, efficient, and ready for the future.”
